Just showing what some fluorescent minerals look like using my "black light" or ultraviolet light. Not all minerals have fluorescence.
Fluorescense is exploited in mineral science in several ways - in some minerals it serves as a means of identification, ultraviolet light is used to find materials that fluoresce, and in the extraction of ore minerals that fluoresce. They also verifiy whether extraction processes are effective. Fluorescence is also used in the microscopic examination of small-scale structures in crystals.
