Biggest Possible Level Leap in FFIX

Three Yans give out 128019 EXP, the most EXP you can gain from a single battle. If a single character at Level One with the Level Up ability takes all that EXP they will gain 38 levels.

That is easier said than done though. I was lazy in the preparations for this fight, and synthesized what I thought would be the minimum amount of Amethysts needed, but didn't foresee that Doomsday wouldn't always hit for 9999 due to random variance. But I still survived thanks to pure dumb luck :P

the best way for fast lvl is learn Dead lvl5 with Quina, eating a Whale in the east of the second continent (i dont remember the name of the continent but is in the continent of the black wizard's village), then go to Gizamaluke and where the Great Dragons and use dead lvl 5, they die instantly and give much experience, when the character is in lvl 99, infect it with virus and the other 3 characters will win more experience..

I went up a lot of lvl's by fighting thunder dragon with 1 person ;p Dont know how much but definitely 30 :p

Doomsday is fucking sick if you have all characters with Shadow-absorbing equipment - massive healing for your characters and massive damage for the enemies! XD

Plus Steiner can actually use it right away with no particular preparations since he only hits the enemies.
