@MrTTaylor25 After that, the Ancient One knew that Strange had truly changed and began teaching him the mystic arts (he hadn't before because he felt Strange wasn't ready to learn something which would require utmost responsibility). And there you have it! How Stephen Strange became Doctor Strange ^^
As for Thor...he's the son of the Norse god, Odin. His divine nature is what gives him his powers. 'Nuf said.

@MrTTaylor25 Strange was once a very skilled yet self-absorbed surgeon. An accident to his hands left him incapable of performing the most common types of surgery. So, seeking solace from his depression, he travelled to the Himalayas and there he found a man known as the Ancient One, who also had an apprentice known as Baron Mordo. When Strange found out that Mordo was attempting to kill his master, Strange put aside all his selfishness and did his utmost to save him.
