Why Is Religion Taboo in American Schools?

Does freedom of speech mean that students are free to talk about anything as long as they dont mention God or Jesus? In this weeks vodcast, John W. Whitehead examines the constitutional ramifications of treating GOD as the new four-letter word.

If you are going to fucking teach Christianity in schools, then you better teach Satanism, Islam, Judaism, Paganism, Buddhism, Wicca, Hinduism, etc.

Years ago there WAS prayer in public schools. They had to say the Lord's Prayer every morning, or else they went to the principle. And guess what that did? NOTHING! There are still Atheists, Hindus, and Muslims in America today. What is the point then? Why are you so agro that your kid isn't getting taught about Jesus in school? Isn't that the parents' job? What happened to PARENTS anyway? Are they outdated like VCRs? Teach your own damn kid about Jesus.

Wasn't america founded by Christians, (i'm sure it wasn't a bunch of atheists!?) then Christianity should be in schools! If you want to learn Judaism in school, go to Israel, If you want to learn Islam, go to Saudi Arabia, If you want to learn Buddhism go to Nepal, and for hinduism, go to India. Those countries have their religion, the one it has had for hundreds of years, and they teach it in schools! so if you don't like Christianity, then move to where you will most likely feel at home.

ok... i wanted to correct all that this guy got wrong, but youtube only gives me 500 characters, and I dont have all night. What I can say is he is wrong on virtually every point he made, and if everyone would take the time to research and think about matters logically, and not through their own lense of the majority, you would see why his position is ridiculous, and on matters of fact, incorrect.

He said "do we want a society where we can discuss all subjects but not god, jesus, yahweh, budda, or muhammed. Now granted some areas are more tolerant than others, but what do you suppose would happen if some muslim kid came to his class and for his hero assignment started speaking the glories of allah and muhammed his prophet and gave his classmates a hand out to take home? Im sure the christian parents would all say, "well isnt that sweet, what a nice little boy."

in his example of the kid choosing jesus as his hero... first, and I virtually guarantee this to be the case... the assignment was to pick a real life hero, a hero that unquestionably existed and furthermore verifiable did certain actions that make him a hero (otherwise the kids would all come as spiderman or wolverine). Im sorry, but in this case coming as jesus is unacceptable, jesus' life/deeds are a matter of faith, to present them as factual is misleading to other children, very clear cut.

ok... first he said that god has become the new 4 letter word... I said to myself... its only 3 letters, give him a break he was just relating the 2. but then not even 10 sec latter he says that kids cant talk about god, they can say other 4 letters words but not god. I can no longer trust him to be an expert or an intellectual on any subject as the guy clearly does not know that god is a three letter word

Kids can talk about Jesus all they want, or Muhammed, or whoever. They can read bibles during free time if they want. Teachers just can't teach religion or promote one above the other.

What, I wonder, would these evangelicals like to see in public school classrooms? The free speech is already there.

Yes, when they were mixing the pagan "gods" with worshipping the true God, they sacrificed their children. But at the pagan service and God was absolutely furious with them. Please tell me....how much time do you spend reading and meditating the Bible to truly be accurate in your accusations?
