Would God Lie About the Age of the Universe?

The beginning of the Creation account in Genesis starts with the "Heaven's and Earth" already in existence before God starts the "Creative Days" Gen 1:1,2 "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth proved to be formless and waste and there was darkness upon the surface? of the watery deep..." This shows that the "primitive" earth existed for an unspecified time BEFORE the Creation account begins. Does the Bible say the Creative Days 24hrs long? NO

When a summary of creation is made in the 2nd chapter of Genesis, all 6 Creative Days are collectively called "Day". As per many bible versions, Gen 2:4 reads, "This is the history of the heavens and of the earth when they were created. In THE DAY that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens." This shows that to constrict the biblical definition of DAY to a 24hr period is disingenuous at best.

What is sad about all this is that even the early Christian fathers realized that the creation story is never meant to be taken literally (St. Agustine). Only in the 16th century did some people try to calculate the age based on Adam and Eve's progeny as it's written in Genesis.

The Bible never gives us an age for the universe. Obviously young earth creationists have failed to realize this. If the earth is 15 billion years old(as some scientists say it is)then that does not change the Bible account. The earth was in existence in a state of judgement(or chaos)for an unspecified amount of time before the literal 6 day recreation account of Genesis. And yes the creative days were literal 24 hour days as we know them today.

God or Jesus is just a way for people to explain the fact of life to the ignorant. It is also a way to get money from people.

The bible is not a unique manuscript it is a collection of allegories and stories and themes lent from mythologies in our past, from greek, roman, egyptian culture. Look up the mythologies of past cultures, you will see christianity is neither unique or any less superstitious than those others.

Where did your god come from?

@82raptor The speed of light is generally accepted to be constant in a vacuum. It is reduced in air and, most noticeably for us, by water (see how a straight object, such as a taught fishing line, for instance, seems to veer off at an odd angle beneath the water - this is known as refraction).

How come people are so wrapped up in their bubble that they cant see that all the theistic gods they deny are just the same as their god. These are just stories, none of which you are supposed to live your lives by.

@islamtherightpath1 Well a large part of the first section of the bible is the same as the quran, and the same for the tora if I am correct. They diverge paths when mohammed is born if I am correct?... either way, they are all myths and fairy tales, science is the only method that can really show us the truth as it is based on observable evidence and thrives from scrutiny to fortify it's concepts.
