Unfortunately, SketchUp is very dependent on your computer's graphics card, and the MacBook (at least before last week) has integrated graphics. This means that the graphics memory is shared with the rest of the system (sort of) which results in not-ideal performance.

Sorry -- stupid CAD-industry humor. AutoCAD is what most architects use to create construction drawing sets. It's the 800-pound gorilla.
