International Recording Group, Discanto at Lake Erie College

Recognized for their unique blend of world music and traditional ethnic beats, the Italian recording band DisCanto will present a concert for the community at Morley Music Building on the campus of Lake Erie College.
Comprised of Michelle Avolio (voice, guitar, bouzouki, mandocello and percussion); Sara Ciancone (violoncello, percussion and choir); Antonello Di Matteo (zampogna (italian bag pipe), accordion, clarinet, flute, organetto and percussion) and Germana Rossi (voice, violin, accordion and percussion), DisCanto's music reflects influences of the Mediterranian and Abruzzo regions, combining lyrics and vocals with the guitar, mandolin, violin, cello, accordion, percussion and traditional bagpipes. DisCanto incorporates traditional themes from southern Italy, Saltarelli, original songs in the Abruzzo dialect and ethnic music from a variety of inspirations. Their repretoire includes chants, serenades, lullabies, orations, teasing songs, salterello songs plus original works in the spirit of folk tradition.
DisCanto has performed hundreds of concerts at various cultural and artistic shows and events in Italy, France, Germany, the United States and the Netherlands. To note, are those held at the Centro Flog in Florence; at the Folk Studio in Rome; at the opening concerts of the Jubilee of the Orchestra giovanile Abruzzese in L'Aquila and Lanciano; in the festival "Etnitalia" in Maratea (PZ); in the Teatro Giordano di Foggia; in Sappada (BL) for the "Convegno Internazionale di Dialettologia"; in the Nazional Festival "Teatro di Gioia" in Gioia dei Marsi (AQ); in the Steigenberger "Frankfurter Hof" in Frankfurt for "I Piceni, popolo d'Europa"; at the Bit in Milan; in the cultural and gastronomic sector representing the Abruzzo area in Berlin and the Hague (Netherlands); in Roubaix, Amiens and Valenciennes (France).
DisCanto has produced four CDs: "Dindirindella" (2001), "Serenata fuori stagione" (2005), "A collection" (2006) and "Ride la luna" (2007).
