I think I'm a fairly jaded guy...but that all gets washed away when I see a guy like Holling doing something so incredibly sweet and touching for the woman he obviously loves so much. It's a good lesson for us. I hope I'll always love my wife as much as Holling loves Shelly, to do this for her.

One of if not the most memorable scenes in Northern Exposure. Loved and love the show and Holling played by John Collum was wonderful. His singing Ave Maria to Shelley is priceless and soulful and sacred in the best sense of all these words. Thank you for this sublime clip from the episode!!

This is, without a doubt, one of the most touching things I've ever seen. It never fails to choke me up. This is what's missing in today's TV and movies...love isn't screwing, getting naked, etc., it's about giving the one you love what they long for, even if you have to step out of character to do it. Hollling is my favorite character on this show, and this is one of the reasons why.
