@EluvJD It depends on why you are stuck. If you are stuck because of airlines problem - for example, flight cancelled because of engine problem, then airlines have to pay for accomodation.
However, if I am stuck because of some situation beyond control; for example, earthquake at destination so airport was destroyed, is airline supposed to provide me with accomodation long enough until the airport was fixed? Come on now.

It is international rule that if flights cannot fly for reasons beyond airline control (natural diaster, terrorism, etc.), then airlines do not need to compensate nor to provide for accomodation, although they may if they choose to.
What I don't understand is - it looks like there weren't that many people there so presumbly everyone else had left and found other accomodations, so why were these people staying at airport? I guess they might not have money.
