Traditional American hymn given the inimitable Swan Arcade treatment.

Mid-fi (32K96K mono) recording from their 1976 'Matchless' release which is I believe no longer available

  • Dave and Heather (and Jim) were wonderful singers. Hope your Mum is well and thank her from me for some great music and happy memories of hearing them in Bradford and Leeds.

  • I remember their last concert at Victoria Hall Saltaire all those years ago. Barbara Dickson turned up and was given a slot, to quote Mike Harding 'cos shes come a long way to sing'. Quality group, quality night.

  • Anybody got a recording of Peat Bog Soldiers or battle of Sowerby bridge - two of their finest songs, amongst many

  • I remember them well, all those years ago at Beverley Folk Festival.

  • am looking for a song called "the donibrstle mine disaster" by swan arcade, my family was involved in the doomed rescue attempt where th rescuers were trapped and died.can anyone help me please.

  • I have a recording from the BBC of Swan Arcade singing at Whitby Festival, some great between song banter, I have digitised it but am not sure how to post it, any tips

  • This song originates in the Appalachian mountains of America. Many of the settlers were of lowland Scots and English borderers stock. I think that, in part, is why a group from the north of England could produce such a vital version of this song.

  • Hey, great to see people still like listening to my mum and dad :-)

  • Yes - please post as much of this great stuff as you can - I love it!

  • @TommyTheHorse I have the original LP of the album that has that song on it. I will post it here soon. I too love this stuff.
