My deviantART page: http://aoiyoru.deviantart.com/

This a series of two videos that demonstrate how to edit, screen tone, and enter text on a manga or comic book page using the free software Gimp. Gimp is a program that is a lot like photoshop, and is very efficient for comic making when used in the correct way.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial! HERE IS PART 2 OF THE TUTORIAL SERIES: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjKWPS-yD5g

Thank you to Barbiefairy96 http://barbiefairy96.deviantart.com/ on deviantART for asking me about the software I use to edit my comic :D I hope this helps!

  • I switch to Gimp instead of Photoshop for many reason and realized how slightly difficult it is. That is until I noticed your video taught me about the Navigation! Thanks to you I can easily work in Gimp now!

  • @PSONumber2 That's awesome to hear, and I definitely know what you mean. Photoshop can be a lot easier to navigate, for lack of a better word lol. I'm really glad it helped!

  • @xxShaddowLuminaxx Easy Paint Tool SAI, however, is available online for download. It's a Japanese program that ONLY runs on windows unless you run boot camp on the mac. It has a thirty day trial period, but there are ways to get it for free that are probably not entirely legal. My friend has done it, and I'd have to ask her how she did it to tell you. You can probably google this, too, though. Paint Tool SAI is very popular for drawing on the computer and far better than GIMP for this purpose.

  • @xxShaddowLuminaxx The video Gimp Manga Drawing! that is one of the videos on the sidebar from this video shows someone drawing in GIMP. GIMP paint studio is also a rather large and complicated brush pack you can download to help make GIMP better for drawing and painting. The drawback is that I've downloaded it and it is hard to download and install. Don't honestly remember how I did it, but if you google it you can find out how eventually. It is helpful because the brushes feel more natural.

Do you know a vid where it is shown how to draw one with gimp? I don't want to buy something and I don't know if this software you said is available in austria-.-

  • @xxShaddowLuminaxx Did that help answer your question? If you mean you want to draw your strip in GIMP, that's possible to do as well, but will be very hard without a tablet. Also, there are other programs that I believe are much more intuitive to use for drawing and produce better results. These are not free, but one good option for a cheap on is Autodesk Sketchbook Pro. I use this one, and it only costs $60. You can also try Easy Paint Tool SAI if you use a windows computer.
