In this short RSA Animate, radical sociologist David Harvey asks if it is time to look beyond capitalism, towards a new social order that would allow us to live within a system that could be responsible, just and humane. View his full lecture at the RSA.

  • Not a single mention of the monetary system or the role of government? We are already way beyond capitalism. By that measure this dysfunctional system IS the new social order. Depends on your definition I guess. Nice presentation, though.

  • This crisis in America was predicted by Ron Paul

  • @greventlv the problem was caused by a lack of regulation on the derivatives market, which ron paul is against regulations so how would he have been able to prevent it?

  • @greventlv It was predicted by plenty of people. It's quite obvious what happens when assets are graded A and are actually dog shit. Then investors overload their portfolios on dog shit assets and when the smart money smells the dog shit and sounds the alarm the bottom falls out screwing us all. This crisis is a simple math problem and Finance 101. Everything has risk and you should never over invest in anything!

  • Why 240p for this beautiful explanation, WHY!?

  • Excellent, we need more clear explanations of this sort.

  • Brilliant. David Harvey is wonderful and the animation is sublime, I said Thesis not Faesces. Hilarious.

  • sounds like christopher hitchens.

  • @37butterflyprincess You could replace it with robots! And, I agree it's a shity job, but we need a bit of sacrifice until we find a good soulution->robots.

  • @37butterflyprincess Yeah..but if you consider that in our time :) 2011 you could replace all forms of manual labor with robots! So it's no problem.
