I was messing around with the Greensleeves theme on harpsichord, when it occured to me that it could make a good viking metal tune. I made up the arrangement as I went along, so in places it may be a bit rough. Basically just the result of grabbing various instruments and laying down some tracks, and then attempting to sing. I guess Turisas and Ensiferum are the main influences here.

Instruments and gear (in order of appearance):

Harpsichord - "Traverso" by l'Atelier des Trois Muses, recorded with AKG C414

Double neck electric ukulele - made by me while doing the Totnes School of Guitarmaking course last year. One neck is nylon strung, the other steel strung with cut down Fender trem bridge and custom made pickup. Played through Boss Metal Zone pedal and Epiphone Valve Junior combo, recorded with SM57.

String synth - Elektronika EM-25, analog soviet string synth.

5 string bass - P. F. G. Signature 5 by B.C. Rich. Played through Sovtek Mig-50 head and Ashdown 2X10 cab, recorded with EV RE-20

My voice - recorded with AKG C414, approx 10 tracks!

Violin - Medio Fino, made in Mirecourt, France, recorded with AKG C414

Drum programming and recording done in Ableton Live.

  • What type of string did you use for the steel ukulele. Did you get a thicker one for the E string??

  • @TheSordikof I use individual (as opposed to a set) electric guitar strings like so:

    G: 10/11

C: 20 wound (or whatever thin wound string I can get hold of)

    E: 14/15

    A: 9/10

  • It's Awesome! whats your piano? It's so cute!

  • @MGdirector

Thank you for your kind words, all instruments are listed in description. There are no pianos! There is a harpsichord and an Electronika EM-25 string synth.

  • hey may you please tell me which chords you play on the piano?? if so, that would be very helpful :)

  • @bowmanpwner *harpsichord (unless you mean the string synth). The chords are:

    Am C G Am Em

    Am C G Am E Am

    C G Am Em

    C G Am E Am

These are the chords I use throughout the song. If you look around you will find that there are many variants of the Greensleeves chord progression and melody, I picked the ones that sounded best to me. Hope this is helpful to you.
