QUINCY -- For the 74th consecutive year, the Eastern Nazarene College Choral Union, a 50-voice choir of students and community members, will perform Handel's Messiah at two free concerts at the Wollaston Church of the Nazarene on the campus of the college.
The performances will be at 7 p.m. Saturday, and 6 p.m. Sunday.
"For 74 years the ENC campus has come together to perform Messiah as a Christmas gift for the people of Quincy," said the group's conductor Delvyn Case, an assistant professor of music at ENC. "No matter how many times you hear the 'Hallelujah' chorus -- with trumpets, drums, organ, and strings blazing -- the experience is unforgettable."
The ENC Choral Union will be joined by a 25-member chamber orchestra and four virtuoso professional vocal soloists who have performed all over the country: soprano Gayle Berman, mezzo-soprano Susan Forrester, tenor Jason McStoots and baritone Lawrence Indik.
"I know of many people who go to our performance instead of a professional production because of the special energy, soul, and passion that our students bring to the piece," Case said. "I think the students respond so well to the music because of its incredible power."
Wollaston Church is at 37 Elm St. on the Eastern Nazarene campus.
I hear Mozart's Requiem but I do believe this is samples of the choral union itself.
