My arrangement of "Mars: The Bringer of War" from The Planets, Op. 32, by Gustav Holst (1874-1934). Sheet music available here:

  • No! don't change pages like that, desperately, in the middle of the piece. It ruins your good performance.

Memorize it (the arrangement is even yours!) or find another way...

I think you just wanted to show off a little.

  • Sorry, my memory is terrible. Thank you for the compliment, though!

  • Maybe it would be a good idea to kindly ask your wife to help you with this piece. She could do two things - maybe play the ostinato left hand rhythm (which doesn't require much proficiency to play!) so that you have two hands to play the "melody"; rather than one. That would mean more volume, a deeper texture and maybe more colour in the right hand part.

And with her free hand she could turn the pages for you! =)

  • Could you please upload the sheet music for Saturn?

  • Good Transscription. I've downloaded it a few months ago and didn't think it was made by a youtube user.

  • Fantastic !

I think it sounds much better on the piano than by an orchestra .

  • If this could get more awesome than it already is it would be to put more feeling into it. The slow section (to me atleast) is supposed to feel like containing anger and it slowly builds up into a huge burst at 4:37. Which feels much slower than usual. The rolling lower register should be backed up by speed in that section, Mars is a unrelenting march. Its just my interp of the score, but if its speed that's the problem you can try drummer chop outs because its the same principle.

Bollocks - as if you could learn this without memorising it

  • good :)

  • I must say that I was sceptical at first that a piano would be able to do this piece justice, mainly due to the many layers, not least the left hand 5/4 ostinato pattern which is basically throughout the piece. But this is fantastic.

Loosely speaking, this is the piece that *all* epic film scores are based on. Many sections of Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard's Gladiator score are extremely similar; so much so that they were sued.

And if you could leave out the page turns it would be even better!!

  • Yes ConfusaCalavera is right

  • That's a very tall and thin piano you have.

    Nice playing
