The mighty Queensland Firebirds completed the greatest season in ANZ Championship history with a 57-44 victory over the Northern Mystics in the Grand Final at the Brisbane convention and exhibition centre. With the 13-goal victory, the Firebirds went unbeaten for the entire ANZ Championship season, an incredible feat.
Queensland led by just two goals at the main break before dominating the third term, 18 goals to eight. Romelda Aiken top-scored for the Firebirds with 35 goals, while joint competition MVP Natalie Medhurst added 22 on 24 attempts.
The Firebirds made history despite losing captain Lauren Nourse to a knee injury earlier in the season. Laura Geitz stepped in to provide brilliant leadership and some cracking intercepts during the Grand Final as Queensland went wire-to-wire
