Something that all good designers have in common is imagination.

Inspiration engages your imagination and imagination leads to design ideas.Good design ideas need to be remembered. Professional designers use a technique of capturing the inspiration, idea or design on paper doing what is called a "Rough Sketch". This is the method you can use to capture your ideas- even if your drawing skills aren't great.

To do your own rough sketch, all you need are simple materials: something to draw with - a technical pen or pencil
colored markers if you'd like to show color ideas; black and white charcoal pens fror shadows and highlights AND a great way to store all your ideas in one place is to use an Idea Book.

It's always a good practice to have your idea book with you. Inspiration can come at any time from anywhere so be prepared. When inspiration arrives, you'll be ready make a rough sketch in your idea book.

Rough sketches are snapshots of what before only existed in your imagination. They communicate design intent and by designing on paper first, will help you solve most design challenges before you actually make the finished piece.Drawing actually engages your imagination even more.

Tip: Make notes on your sketch to remember materials, colors, size, and proportions you've imagined.

Apply this technique and you'll have a record of your inspired design ideas. Make it a habit, and you'll fill your Idea Book with your original ideas before you know it. Rough sketches are a great way to record all the wonderful ideas you have. When you make the actual pieces later, it will be much easier.

Use your imaginiation and find the inspiation to design and make your own great ideas.
