Daily News @ http://RevolutionNews.US — There is no evidence that ecstasy causes brain damage, according to one of the largest studies into the effects of the drug. Too many previous studies made over-arching conclusions from insufficient data, say the scientists responsible for the research, and the drug's dangers have been greatly exaggerated.

The finding will shock campaigners who have claimed ecstasy poses a real risk of triggering brain damage. They have argued that it can induce memory loss, decrease cognitive performance and has long-lasting effects on behaviour.

But experts who have argued that the drug is relatively safe welcomed the new paper. "I always assumed that, when properly designed studies were carried out, we would find ecstasy does not cause brain damage," said Professor David Nutt, who was fired as chair of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs by Alan Johnson, then home secretary, for publicly stating alcohol and tobacco were more harmful than ecstasy...

"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. Already they have raised up a monied aristocracy that has set the government at defiance. The issuing power (of money) should be taken away from the banks and restored to the people to whom it properly belongs."

—Thomas Jefferson

  • @thegestopo "there's a reason ecstacy is illegal: it's bad for you".....alcohol, tobacco, fast food, ignorance, jamming a knife into your leg, these are all things that are bad for you and are not illegal, the government couldn't give a shit about you hurting yourself sir, and the day that they do is the day that the charitable organisations start paying them more then the pharmaceutical, alcohol industries etc do. Money doesn't just make the world go round, it also dictates pace and direction.

  • @thegestopo the reason its illegal is because anything that gives you pleasure is illegal, wen u make things illegal u dont make it go away,it just goes in the hands of ppl that dont care wat they give u as long as they get money...MDMA doesnt cause anything alone...wen its cut with meth,heroin,2Ci, and mainly DXM is wen it causes damage..so yea ur brother is a dumbass for buyin XTC and not testin it XD

One of the fears of Ecstasy (not covered in this discussion) is that Ecstasy will lead to promiscuity, much in the same way that alcohol & marijuana does...

It's been my observation that religion is against anything that promotes a freedom of thinking, which (in my view) ecstasy provides an avenue for...

  • @sharperguy Also: the worst thing about having DXM in pills is that if people are combining it with alcohol, they can both effect the respiratory system and reduce or stop breathing.

  • @sharperguy Also: You were right the first time about serotonin depletion. Basically most of the effect from MDMA is a result of a large release of serotonin. However, because its usually a long-term acting neruotransmitter, it replenishes at a much slower rate than something like dopamine, and lower levels of serotonin are partially what causes the "comedown" effect.

  • For the brief period I was using ecstasy (about three years ago) I can say that for sure most pills in the UK at the time were piprazines.

  • Wow. A bunch of biased drug users promoting a drug using a sub-par study that only gets published one unknown journal. This study was only a field test. Used a very small study pool of 111 participants that are all part of the "Rave Culture" over a very short period of time. Not only does the study prove itself to be inconclusive but it also contradicts the reasearchers own findings. On top of that HashburyNews uses false examples of this drug fixing marriages and PTSD in one treatment.

  • Free MDMA!

  • @uk7roomdaddy

Yes I take cocaine, methamphetamine, ecstasy, LSD, etc, etc, etc. I'm not against drugs, but it is best to assume they are dangerous, so as to be as safe as possible with them.
