  • hey i live in panama, central america and we fish for peacocks. and i got a question bc we dont fly fish for them but i love fly fishing and want to start fly fishing for them, the fish we catch are about the same size as the ones in this vid. what weight rod, length of rod, and flys do you use

  • @stephen7meister

I like a 9 foot - 6 weight rod teamed up with bass taper fly line and a flourocarbon tippet if you want the fly to sink or a mono / co-polymer leader if you are fishing up top. The best flies seem to be clouser minnow types and gummy fish. They will also take poppers and faster moving streamers at times. Hope that helps!

  • i catch them on my back yard . just with a trebel hook they get very agresive when breedeing. thats what u are doing they are trying to protect their nests and will atack just anything that pases by . once one broke 3 lines and always came back to the nest finily i coul take out 3 hooks from its mouth belive it or not .females are biger than males and hahe a hump on the neck as they get older i guess so nex time u fish for peacock look befor because they a lot of times are with their babys

  • @havanacerroarti

    That's sporting...using a treble hook... :(

FYI...The male peacock bass is always larger than the female. The "nuchal hump" on their foreheads identifies the male and becomes more pronounced during the spawning process.

  • I cant wait.!! Starting to see the peas up on the beds again in Miami :)

  • What is the brand of the line you are using?

  • BassPro Shops brand hi-visibility bass taper fly line to a 10 pound Berkely Vanish flourocarbon tippet.

  • Wish I had abouth ten that size in my pond

  • I wanna go to Florida now!

  • Damn, if they are on spawning beds like that, use a top water popper. Those would be TNT on a deer hair bass bug.

  • nothing like sight casting to a 5-7 lber with a 4 wt rod!

  • nice! i wish we had peacock bass on the west coast. good work :)
