  • Thanks to your video I'm going to try to make a plate! How many pounds of clay do you use? Please and thank you, Janice

  • @janicethepotter i dont really ever weigh out the clay i use... a rough estimate for how much i use on the average size plate is about grapefruit or softball size chunk. thanks for watching and the kind words.

  • This is very timely, as I've been trying out the "plate" thing recently. Any secrets for making plate sets?

Thanks again for a another great post.

  • well the best advice i have to to prepare your balls of clay before you begin.. so if u want to make 10 plates make ten clay balls that are as close to the same amount ...then as along as you keep each step simple and basicaly follow a kind of formula you used on the first you should come damn close to the same size everytime.. using the rib helps a lot with that too to keep consistancy in shape also calipers can help but eventualy you wont need them...sooner than you would think

  • Great plate - the best video on making a plate yet. THANK YOU!!

  • haha uptown girl. i love that song XD

  • @davmth1 I usually cut it, leave it on the bat till leather hard then trim etc. Not cutting it when it is fresh causes many problems I have found.

  • ofcorse you have to leave it on the batt to get leather hard 1st, afterwards you can take it off and let it dry upside down after trimming

  • when removing the plate after cutting it with the wire, do u leave it on the batt to get leather hard or do u take it off right then? also can u suggest wat pottery wheel i should get that is not so expensive but still works well?

  • Hi, thank you for such great videos! I recently came across them and intend to utilize your techniques. You explain things with great simplicity and demonstrate with such ease. Thank you ever so much for inspiring me to improve!

  • ive never been able to make plates before untill i saw this video! way simple and easy! thanks!

  • Excellent video. I learned alot. I love that you're not afraid of water! Everyone tells me water is bad.

I do have a question. I did a kiln opening yesterday and my plates warped badly. I used plate stackers and I'm not sure if they caused the problem or I did. If you can, please check out my kiln opening videos. If you have any advice I would certainly appreciate it.
