In 1817, at age 25, Anthony Flower left London, England on one of his father's trading ships bound for Canada. He would never return to claim his inheritance of the shipping company.
Since 2002, a researcher at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery in Fredericton, New Brunswick, has found over 200 Anthony Flower paintings scattered across Canada, the United States, New Zealand and Australia, with many of his paintings still in the care of the descendants he originally gave them to.
So, who is Anthony Flower? Why did he give up a fortune and the comforts of London, England to live in the wilds of Canada? Why did he paint and not sell his art? And why are so many of his paintings still around today?
The 50 minute documentary film, "Anthony Flower: The Life & Art of a Country Painter," sensitively unravels the mystery behind the artist and paints a unique portrait of a gentle man who was passionate about nature and people, and who cared about his community and world he lived in during the 1800's.
