Google Streetview Stationary Bike FYP MSc. Interactive Media UL

This project was originally designed for people in a palliative care centre with little or no experience of computers, who can not enjoy a bike ride like we can.

This is a part of my Masters thesis project in Interactive Media, Here people are testing it out. It is a stationary bike set up to work with Google Earth and Street view so you can pedal through anywhere in the world that has streetview set up online and you can look around using a Nintendo Wii Remote. This is just the begining for this project, there is lots more I want to add to it and far more applications I want it to work with like prerecorded videos and games, Thanks to Jason Holt from Google for allowing me permission to investigate the code and use Google Streetview. Thanks to Mikael Fernström and all in the IDC in UL for the endless help and hopefully I can continue to improve on this project.

this is totally sweet.

imagine you are planning a vacation somewhere and just out of curiosity take a bike ride through your planned destination. yay :)

but i think a bigger screen / a projector would really enhance the experience.

Heh, pretty neat idea. Once street view is fluid enough to minimize the blurring it could be a sweet solution for the agoraphobic fitness enthusiast.

Still does nothing to quell my hatred of stationary bikes though,maybe a fan behind the monitor to simulate the wind in your hair..still nothing better than grabbing a real bike.

Btw,3 steps to success:

1-Make it into a wii accessory

2-Patent it

3-Secure licensing and funding from google

4-Present to the Dragons Den=profit ?

What a great project, I mean.. I hate those kinds of training apparatuses because you aren't going anywhere, staring into a brick wall most of the time.. at least with this thing you can see different places :P
