Just for your info.... jimmy page and jeff beck both sat in on this recording. It's been said where this song is concerned page and beck were perfect foils for each while recording this tune. John Paul Jones sat in on bass. The guy talking and making all the comments during the lead guitar break is jeff beck. Thought I would add that info for those who might appreciate it. I bought a double album of the yardbirds and those comments were in the liner notes.

I agree but sometimes the liner notes do not tell the story. I remember thinking when did Kiss learn to play lead guitar, when Destryer came out. It was Alice Coopers Dick Wagner that turned that trick, and of course Joe Satriani and Steve Vai did God Gave Rock and Roll to You, in the Bill and Ted movie.I miss liner notes in the digital music world. I won many a trivia challenge by reading them.

I wish this wasn't only song by the Yardbirds in which both Beck and Page played together as guitarists. I'd love to hear an unedited version of this song. The engineer fades out the song and cuts it just when the real guitar soloing begins. Many great songs were edited to meet the prevailing 3 minute time limit for rotation play on Top 40 radio, during that era. A year or so later, rise of FM underground radio stations pretty much put an end to the 3 minute rule.

Can you imagine what they could have done if they stayed together a bit longer ? Too bad Jeff and Jimmy had a volatile relationship. They were one of the first to do double lead guitars. But we did end up with Zeppelin so all was not lost(smirk)
