Mary is so goddamn annoying in this book. Do we have to have a description of how much the sun shines out of her arse on every page?
-
Philippa should probably do a novel about Henry I's daughter Matilda aka Maud. That would be cool!
-
I've yet to read this book, I love Philippa's work!

Scarlett Johanson said she is lined up to play Mary Stuart in a remake of "Mary, Queen of Scots" which had Glenda Jackson as Elizabeth I and Vanessa Redgrave as Mary Stuart. So far, the project's been put aside. I like Scarlett's portrayal of Mary Boleyn in "The Other Boleyn Girl" i think she would be good for the part.

@happybkwrm I know hey how stupid do you have to be to expect someone you just tried to murder help you regain a position that would put their country, LIFE and rights in jeopardy again, you have to be either pretty desperate or pretty stupid if you ask me
-
@keishabaxter2 I know. Mary was INCREDIBLY stupid... "Hmm. Now that I've escaped the mob that wants me dead, what do I do? Go to France, a Catholic country, where I have money and an estate? Nah. I think I'll go to England and ask the Protestant Queen Elizabeth - whose throne I tried to claim - to give me an army!" Uh... stupid much?
-
@SALeppard Elizabeth had the right to protect herself and her kingdom from a would-be usurper.
People like to forget - Scotland didn't WANT Mary back. Her own son refused a deal that would have released her. The cult of Saint Mary only came about AFTER her death. Nobody wanted her around when she was alive; she was a disaster as a queen.
-
@SALeppard England did not WANT another Catholic on the throne after Mary Tudor. There were several wars over this fact. And I find it disgusting that the Church would say it's all right to murder someone.
-
@SALeppard Uh-huh. Actually, Elizabeth could have let the Scots kill Mary. They wanted to. By the time Mary FLED Scotland, they were baying for her blood.
Mary arrived in Scotland with the reputation of a virtuous woman. In a few years, she had destroyed her credibility and was considered an adulteress and a murderer.
And please. Did anyone expect Elizabeth to hand over an army to a woman who had already tried to claim her throne so she could reclaim a country that hated her?

@SALeppard I read "The Other Queen"; I found Gregory's Mary to be a selfish, manipulative creature who expected everyone to follow her. She honestly thought she could do anything she wanted and no one would ever curb her.
I love this woman's books but her opinion on Elisabeth the 1st and even Anne Boleyn is absolutely ludicrous...I mean no offense to Mary Queen of Scot's but she married a man who raped her...and forced her to have a child with him...Elisabeth on the other hand was a smart independent woman and a great and noble ruler...
I mean Mary actually attempted to have her cousin killed and went around telling everyone she was the real queen of England and then expected Elisabeth s help...I mean WTF
