For those of us who are not jazz or swing drummers, even playing something 'as easy' as this is incredibly tough! A fantastic relaxed groove by Omar Hakim, but for me, it is very difficult.
Trying to keep the swing vibe all the way through is great fun though. I am sure that any jazz drummers or musicians watching this will laugh their heads off, but seriously, for those of us amateurs more used to playing progressive rock and Copeland chops, this is a big challenge.
Hakim plays this sublimely. It is one of my all-time favourite pieces of drumming. I can remember watching him play this live (around 1987?), and I was almost wetting myself. The guy had so much energy, an intense amount of skill and agility, and an amazing feel. Brilliant.
I do not pretend that my attempt here is by any means perfect. I just love trying to play along, and thought I would post what I do on here. It's good to play outside your comfort zone, and for me, playing this sort of style and groove is way outside my comfort zone! Hope some of you enjoy it!

Hey Guy! Nice video. If you allow me, I would say that this should go more gentle, nearer. But great performance. Congratulations.

Yes, I agree. I am out of my comfort zone playing this sort of thing. I cannot swing and play with anything like the smooth fluidity of Omar Hakim, and it certainly shows in this vid :-)
