This is an old video of songs and dances from Bamyili, a remote Aboriginal settlement in Arnhem Land, Northern Territory. It was recorded sometime in the 1980s. The virtuoso didgeridoo player, the late David Blanasi, hailed from Bamyili and is widely recognised as the greatest mago player within living memory.

Blanasi teamed with songman Djoli Laiwanga to form a traditional Aboriginal dance troupe which toured Australia and overseas.

  • I wish Black Australia was still like this its beautiful.

  • In some places it still is!

  • Amazing! The hertiage of the White Cockatoo... Is there a place where I could get a copy of the whole film?

    Thanks Guan!

  • They weren't called White Cockatoo back then though. This is rare footage and I'm not sure who else has it and where it can be purchased, I just have an old tape from a long time ago...

  • as a aboriginal australian we are very truthful & cultural people when it comes to spiritual connection to both land and sea and how we should live today the way of life. today the world is disgusting place , people can do anything they want. but when it comes to aboriginal way everyone has a responsibility on how they should live by following our traditional laws that is not recognized in our own country.

  • Yes & thanks God for that... ive been to Arnhem land & it was so mezmorising. The people are so cultured & truthful. I live in Redfern & its a totally different story..
