this song can be used to answer an old lesbian question, why do a vast majority of women fall in love with men even though men can be arseholes sometimes.

She is trying to ask her mother why they were so apart and she didnt guide her more when she was young. This caused her to suffer many hard knocks in life, especially love (walk under a bus, hit by a train). But ultimately she realised that this was all part of growing up. what doesnt kill you only makes you stronger. she learned from the lessons (it felt so good, i wanna do it again). So she is trying to say that whether you have guidance or not - you are still going to live your own life.
