One foggy morning, to the horror of two deer hunters, a long and ominous neck peer through the dense mist in front of them. An enormous body and two prehistoric feet soon followed! It was a turkey...no it was a dinosaur...no wait..IT'S AN EMU! Then it was dinner.

Many Texas ranchers rushed into the sudden Osterich and Emu crazy in the late 1990's only to watch the market fall out soon after the turn of the century. Tens and even hundreds of thousands of dollars were lost by individuals and many ranchers suffered terribly. In order to prevent further losses of keeping the animals (which eat a LOT) many owners were forced to put them down. Other more compassionate but thoughtless ranchers let the animals loose, causing potentially tragic human encounters either face-to-face or on the road. Had an unsuspecting and unarmed individual encountered this animal, the outcome could have resulted in severe human injury or death.
