I too grew up listening to these songs! My grandmother was a Carter and the Chuck Wagon Gang used to come by her house in Sherman, TX. There was always singing and guitar playing with my uncle playing the piano! Wow! Fond memories!

Thanks for posting this, I grew up with my parents playing thier records. I miss the old songs like this, they dont sing them much any more in this way. Our little old church in N. Ga, still does but would love to hear some new groups recording the old songs in this manner...so many memories Thanks!

The picture for the "current" Chuck Wagon Gang is incorrect. It shows Penney as the alto, and it is Shaye (Anna's granddaughter). Please update! Thanks! Gail Bruce

I saw the Chuck Wagon Gang in Shade Gap, PA August 10, 1969... I believe the guitarist at that time with them was Mylon LeFevre...would anybody remember?

Hide Me, Rock Of Ages. J.D. Sumner and the Blackwood Brothers have a couple of videos here on youtube, but it seems J.D. overdemonstrates his vocal prowess in every performance (in my opinion), detracting from the song's feeling.

I have made a careless mistake on the 1955 picture. Pictured bottom right is Eddie, not Jim. The Original Gangs final recording session with Jim singing bass was in 1953.

That's the way church congregrations sang them, with a pause before beginning each new verse.

Harold Timmons, who was with the Gang in the eighties has Gospelgallery and all CWG music is there. I have ordered Cattle UK #268 Americas Popular Family Quartet cd hoping to get a better quality "When The Saints Go Marching In" than my old worn out vinyl. He is also sold out of "Higher: Complete 1940 Dallas Session" cd, but I have emailed Copper Creek Records and think I have been lucky enough to find one. I say lucky because on Amazon sellers are asking $50-$75, and they have one $14 incl post
