On June 14, 1994, the New York Rangers defeated the Vancouver Cannucks in game seven of the Stanley Cup Finals by a score of 3-2. It marked the Rangers' first Cup victory since 1940 when they defeated Toronto. It was also Vancouver's first trip to the Finals since 1982.

Of course, the Rangers needed the help of Mark Messier in game six of the Conference Finals and Stéphane Matteau in game seven to even get to this series. Two now famous calls, one by Gary Thorne and the other by Howie Rose, describe the events of those nights in a nutshell.

  • The best night of my life! Section 409. Row D. Seat 14.

  • @matteaucubed That reminds me of a story. I saw the "30-for-30" episode called "June 17, 1994" which was prefaced with the Rangers cup win on 6/14. There was a kid in the stands with a sign reading "I skipped my prom to go to game seven!". I wonder where he is nearly eighteen years later...

  • So many defunct companies advertising on the boards

  • @FozzyBearist Speaking of that, what ever happened to U.S. Healthcare? They seem to have disappeared from the boards of the NHL by the late 90s.

  • AND THIS ONE WILL LAST A LIFE TIME!

  • This win sent a message to the sports world that it's okay to finally win a championship after a long drought. Since this win, the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks ended their long Stanley Cup droughts; the Boston Red Sox, Chicago White Sox and San Francisco Giants ended their long World Series droughts, and nine NFL teams went to their first Super Bowl.

  • Come On Rangers! I can see that happening too y'know: Ryan Callahan c'mon get the Stanley Cup. Greetings from the Czech rep
