StormSettled Productions presents Sarava Criola from the new album Voçê Não Sabe-EP by Plataforma! This is the exciting new release we've all been waiting for. Production is complete and you get to see it here first.

Sarava Criola is an award winning song written by Ton Jones in 1993. (John Lennon Song Writing Competition-NYC) This video was shot on May 30th 2010 in Kensington Market, live. The concept for this video is a Brazilian Street party. It takes a part of the spirit of Brazil and bring it to the streets of Toronto. Planning took one month, and the video was shot in one afternoon.

(Sarava Criola will be included on the album Voçê Não Sabe currently in duplication.)

Plataforma would like to thank everyone involved in the production of this video. Without you all; we wouldn't have been able to do this. Plataforma thanks Ozzie for the location, and would also like to thank the amazing crowd we had that day. You were all wonderful to play for. Obrigado.

This song speaks of the island of São Vincente-one of the nine major islands that form the country of Cape Verde, located off the west coast of Africa. Full of history, a Portuguese colonial tradition, and rich in culture this song's an-thematic style is a perfect vehicle for a Cape Verdian singer as well as his audience of people proud to be Cape Verdian.

The people themselves, as well as the language they speak (a combination of Portuguese, French, African and Dutch) are called Creole.

Rhythmically, the song is treated in more of a coladera/olodum style. Coladera being the primary form of Cape Verdian dance music, very close to the Afro-Brazilian rhythm olodum, which Paul Simon popularized in his "Rhythm Of The Saints" album.

(Original in Portuguese)

Dito, São Benedito
Em terra firme vai ficar
Acorda na corda bamba E vem dancar
Dito, São Benedito
Em terra firme vai ficar
Acorda na corda bamba E vem cantar
Lua de lua cheia
Sol de sol a sol
Olha de São Vincente
Sarava.

Sarava Criola
Sarava, Sarava, Sarava, Sarava
Criola

(English translation)

I told you St. Benedict
that on firm ground you would stay
wake up on a tight rope, come and dance.
I told you St. Benedict
that on firm ground you would stay
wake up on a tight rope, come and sing.
Moon to fullest moon
Sun to rising Sun
Island of St. Vincent
Bless you all.

Bless you all Creoles,
Bless you all, bless you all, bless you all, bless you all,
Creoles
