  • please answer! i mad my own mask with several layers of cardboard with old pieces of metal bug screen in between. i will not make any for anyone until i know i can make safe ones and i can confidently hold my 355 fps shot gun to any part of the mask on my head and pull the trigger. i live in a small town. only one guy had a rifle that went up to 400 and he moved away.do you think that the helmet will be safe, but not too bulky and / or tight? please answer.

I am unable to declare a particular homemade mask "safe" by a text description. You can get an idea of how well it will prevent injury by testing it. Shoot at it with the most powerful gun you might play against. Do it at point-blank range at different angles, focussing on places where different parts come togethere and at the mask-face interface.

  • who shoots somone in the face with a modded 510fps auto gun at 8inches away? i mean there is the what if theory but cmon... really..500fps.. who has that?!?

  • @LiiVeWiiReD

You are correct to be appalled at the thought of this ever happening to player. I have two documented accounts of players shot at point-blank range duing a game. One of those games allowed riles firing over 500 fps on the field. This is not an unreasonable test for a mask used in such games. Most masks I have tested remain intact through this test.

  • so for CQB where the fps limit is 330 do you prefer these or the ironface?(my team captain has both and prefers the mesh for breathing but i'm still skeptical)

  • @AsianAvenueM

I don't feel like the breathing is different. It is more the change in voice. Your voice is muffled in the Iron Face. It also gets really hot with condensation inside the mask and on the outside near the ventilation holes. It is open between the botom of the mask and your chin, so airflow is adequate.

  • I ordered one of these today, got my tooth shot out last saturday....

  • My first ever Airsoft war. I was at a friends house in the backyard. Everytime I took a hit, it was to the nose right close to where the mask and my nose meet. I'm now looking into the ESS Profile + cortex clip so this won't happen again. This was with a Crossman AK74u from about 30-40 feet. Not sure how but those were some dead on shots to hit in the same place, from a Crossman at that...
