"Story Corps" founder David Isay presents an interview with WWII vet Joseph Robertson telling about killing a young German soldier and not being able to forget it, even today.

Thank you Joseph Robertson for liberating the Netherlands.
My family will never forget. Murder is not good, even in war, but what you did was required.
My great grandparents fought with the Royal Dutch Air Force.
This murder was worth it. It was nothing compared to what we had to go through in 1944.

My father was a combat engineer during the bulge and told me before he passed away that he done the same and never really got over it.

I have read so many stories from all sides of people who fought in this war. It was so horrible and so many terribly sad things happened, like this story. There were so many wonderful heroes in this war. The war hurt them, and marked them and killed them. I hate so much that these things have happened to so many wonderful people. The German people were hurt so much by that horrid Hitler. May God bless the living and dead from this war. Thank you so much Joe, for sharing this!
