Lewitsch Tanzorchester: Hula Lou
Parlophon 1718 (mx. No.: 6914)
Berlin, July 1924

Arno Lewitsch was the first German violin player who tried to play hot music on his instrument. In 1925 he played with Julian Fuhs' Follies Band. On a few Fuhs records Lewitsch can be heard with a hot solo.

The alto sax player on "Hula Lou" is most probably Eric Borchard.

  • Thanks for your kind comment. Getting cross eyed? That's exactly what happens with me whenever I check my subscriptions ...

  • Thanks for the positive feedback. There exists another comparably good record by Lewitsch. I still don't have it, so please watch out for "I've got a cross-eyed papa"!

  • Beulah Annan (the inspiration for chicago's roxie hart) listened to this song over and over for 4 hrs while watching her lover Harry Kalstedt bleed to death after she shot him in the neck.

Thanks for posting this song, Stompy23!

  • @jeweladdict72 that's why i'm here........did you read the book?

  • @NICKELz8888 --Yes, it was a Tweety cartoon. If I remember correctly, it opened on Tweety in his cage, singing "Hula Lu" (or "Huwa Wu", as he sang it). Remembering that snatch of song made my google it ;)

  • I'm pretty sure this is the song that's on a lot of old Warner Brothers cartoons. And idea how that came about, or where they lyrics on the cartoon came from?

  • Does anybody know where one could download or purchase a copy of this song? I have looked around for it to no avail.

  • Stompy there is now so uch to look out for that I am even now cross eyed.Thank you for your efforts, much appreciated.Grossartige Aufnahmen
