I see where your coming from as an outsider to Australian cricket, but Ponting does cop a fair bit of stick from our media.

only Indians would have been penalized man...I've seen Shane Warne bellow out appeals...never gets pulled by match refs...I've seen Ponting arguing with umpires...but of course in the eyes of the Australian media and international match referees he's the great Ponting who is a saint and can never be wrong!
