@lesdoyle2000 My best guess would be to trial new weapons and C&C systems on an inferior aggressor. Think of the massive data load that has been gleaned from UAV ops over both wars, and how the operational experience will enhance operations with any future (China) aggressor.

Bush told his own contracted ghostwriter (Mickey Herskowitz) in 1999, when he was not yet even the nominee, that if elected president he would invade Iraq. The reason? Score political points and secure high poll numbers. Bush confided his belief that successful presidents needed to win a war, and he thought Iraq would be an easy one.

2003 Mar 11 Andrew Wilkie (Aust intelligence analyst) resigned over WMD lies by Prime Minister Howard. ”Iraq does not pose a security threat to any other country at this point in time. Its military is very weak, it's a fraction of the size of the military at the time of the invasion of Kuwait.”
