Physicist Leonard Mlodinow distinguishes between what he sees as the roles of science and religion in understanding the world. While some find spirituality useful for explaining some of the things science can't, he explains, problems arise when spiritual answers are given to material questions.

-----

Deepak Chopra and Leonard Mlodinow: War of the Worldviews. Presented in collaboration with Sixth and I Historic Synagogue.

In War of the Worldviews: Science vs. Spirituality, the two bestselling authors debate the most fundamental questions of human existence.

How did the universe begin? Where did life come from? Is there design in nature?

Without defending organized religion, Chopra asserts that there is design in the universe and a deep intelligence behind the rise of life. Mlodinow, CalTech physicist and the writing collaborator of Stephen Hawking, argues for the viewpoint of science, specifically of modern quantum physics.

War of the Worldviews opens the public's eyes to the fascinating frontier where knowledge and mystery converge and every assumption about life, God, and the universe are open to debate. Program moderated by Timothy Shriver, Chairman and CEO of the Special Olympics.

Physicist and author Leonard Mlodinow explores the extraordinary extent to which randomness, chance and probability influence and shape our work and everyday lives. Mlodinow was a writer for the television series MacGyver and Star Trek: The Next Generation and co-author with Stephen Hawking of the recent best-seller The Grand Design.

Biblical scholars are of the opinion that Genesis 1 and 2 are two separate and distinct creation accounts. They certainly read as such.

  • @Walhei960

The bible is wrong on many fronts. The order that genesis shows things appearing on earth is wrong. Humans evolved, we were not created. The earth is not 6,000 years old, it does not rest on pillars, there is no firmament. There was no flood, the exodus never happened.....shall I continue?

  • @Walhei960 You are so bitter and full of retard.

All I can say to you is you should give thinking, reason, facts, and evidence a chance to change your life.

All you have to do is let facts and science into your heart and mind, and you will see and feel the change immediately! No longer will you live and grovel in fear to an invisible sky daddy, instead you will know you are free to be as you want and do what you'd like!

Open your heart to the truth of reality before it's too late!

  • ehm I think he's pretty wrong at 1:37 when he say's that science can't explain these things

-> meaning of life itself -> storage and multiply of information in form of DNA depending on the enviromental conditions because of the fundamental features of nucleic acids like self replication

-> love ->a pattern of neural activity just like colours ( which do not really exist in nature) on another level of cognitive abilities

-> why human beings are here? ->see evolution - humanoid form is advantagous

  • @Walhei960

So what? Newton also explored Alchemy in his spare time....a person being right in some things provides no support at all for other beliefs that they may hold as true.

  • @MrDasmaster Zechariah declared Jesus would be betrayed for the price of a slave, thirty pieces of silver. Probably ! in 10 to the 11 power. 700 BC Micah named the tiny village of Bethlehem as the birthplace of Jesus. Prob.1 in 10 to the fifth power. Jeremiah foretold exact sequence of Jerusalem's nine suburbs 2600 ago. They are precise today Probability 1 in 10 to the eighteenth power. There are hundreds of prophecies that came true precisely as predicted. A few remain of end times

  • @TurboDally You have no idea, What a God is! You have no Idea Who God is! Like a desert you are dry and without any Living Water. I will be happy to continue answering questions, but not if you blaspheme my God.

  • @TurboDally You are so bitter and full of hate! We can always tell a non believer. Well, all I can say is, you should give God a chance to change your life. It took so long for me to come to Christ, forty years. I hope you can find faith quicker than I did. The secret, I found out much to late, is to open your heart to the truth. Read the Bible with two or more commentaries. You will come to Salvation sooner. The end comes quickly for a lot of people. You need the Lord!

  • @kshackleton Most people like Newton and believed in God, back then.

  • @TurboDally There are few start to the North. Bible says; "Stars are as numerable as the grains of sand!"No one knew that until the Hubble Space telescope! Hebrews 11:3 Creation made of Particles we cannot see. Not until the 19th. century did we know that! Leviticus 15:13. Cloths and body should be washed in running water. Who knew about germs in that time? God! Job38:16 Oceans contained springs! In the 1970's Springs were discovered by deep sea vehicles. All this was 3 to 6,000 yrs

  • @Walhei960

"Job spoke of empty space to the North."

Well obviously as long as it was vague, it's a prophecy!

"The Bible speak of stars numerable as grains of sand"

Something a 5 year old can tell you if the child gazed at the stars in the deserts of the middle east :)

"the Bible said God hung the earth on nothing"

    OMFG! I'M CONVERTING ASAP!
