Toward the Within was recorded in one take in November 1993 in the Mayfair Theatre in Santa Monica, California and was released by 4AD as an album and a video a year later. It was the last major event to take place in the Mayfair Theatre before it was fatally weakened in the earthquake a short time later and had to be demolished. The video was filmed by Mark Magidson and contains interviews with Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry.

Not only an extraordinary singing voice but I also find her speaking voice absolutely beautiful. It has a gentle, mesmerising quality to it. So clear, pure and genuine.

This is my favorite. Brave boys for singing with her. The percussionist on the right sang the same part on the second half. Impressive.

@JVbin From what I understand, she's had this personal language since she was 12, so I'm sure she has a means of either writing it out or keeping it all straight in her brilliant head.

Notice the dark haired percussionist sings the same part as her. Good for him for keeping up with her. This is in my top 3 for her!

This is a "mix" of two songs of her first solo album, I think that this piece just evolved into two seperate songs. Anyway, it's beautiful, magic and sacred.
