This is the Radical Bay 8000 design which was designed by Schionning Marine. We also built this particular boat to prove the concept to the many doubters. She is now called "Smart One" and is sailed around the Cape Town area by owner Klaus Scheid. As you can see she goes well, and the concept is certainly workable. Schionning Marine sell contruction plans and material kits for this and many other designs, you can find more info on our website http://www.schionningmarine.com.au/

  • I heard this boat capsize, can you tell me what happened. I'm looking into building this boat

  • Hi bstokes40,

The incident occured in False Bay off Cape Town in very light conditions. While drifting along in a light breeze the boat and her crew were caught offguard by a bullet/gust blowing down from Table Mountain. The boat capsized, the only damage being a broken mast - a result of the impact with the water, not the wind. The rest of the boat was dried out with minimal damage. A few mast repairs later and they were sailing again!

    Kind Regards,

    The Schionning Team.

  • @yammer123 No, that makes no sense. A tri is just a little more stable than a cat

  • @SchionningMarine so does that mean if this was a trimaran with the weight centered in the center hull this boat could never capsize having a dual mast set up??
