It doesn't seem appropriate that he did this in what appears to be a publicity stunt, but you never really know how desperate he is to get through to his daughter. Maybe media is the only language she speaks and they only way he can get her attention is through the media? Lindsay is clearly nailing her own coffin and WHATEVER it takes to get through to her is better than trying to be polite about it. It's better to be embarrassed than dead. She clearly needs some kind of help.
