No my usual subject area, but I am posting this Lockheed Martin video of the HULC exoskeleton to link to a post on Aviation Week's Ares blog. But I like the idea. It looks simple enough - a hydraulically powered exoskeleton that transfers the load direct to the ground and help the solider carry heavy equipment. It was designed by Berkeley Bionics.

  • But, humans can't do that with 200 pounds on their back.

  • How would they power this thing? To my knowledge that's a major constraint for powered exoskeletons

  • Sooo...Where are the laser cannons??

  • I'm in the ventureing program there!

  • It's incredible, that HULC. I wanna see it fight another one. Rock em sock em style!

  • first steps to power armour....

  • at 1:47 i thought it will self-destruct...

  • I feel as if HULC is a forced acronym...

  • @kaisa226 its all mechanical, not electric.

  • next thing u know people will have power armor with jetback and shoots rockets from the back

  • I feel like this is kinda like the first bolt action rifle. Much more to come.

  • @Sclemtak you misunderstood. Military electronics are bug-free, EMP and rad-hardened. The same goes for space-capable hardware. That process requires lots of development time. This means that their performance lags 5-7 years behind civilian ones (that's the time needed to develop more reliable versions, but in the meantime civilian cutting-edge has advanced A LOT)

That means HULC is close to the best they have.

And that most desktops have more processing power than the F-22's avionics.
