Murder In the City by The Avett Brothers. Standard tuning, Capo 3. This song is inherently challenging to play because it, like most other songs on the Gleams, is played by two guitars instead of one. on the recording, Scott is playing from the position you see in the video, and Seth is playing from a G shape with the capo at the 8th fret. I think that this version is a passable mix of both guitar parts. sorry if I teach something one way and then play it another or vice versa. this is one of those songs that, since there is no best way to play it on one guitar, I never really play it the same twice. good luck!

  • This is a really good tutorial especially for being such a hard song to explain. thankyou

  • Can you tab this?

  • I believe that you can play this really well, but I don't think this video is completely helping others learn the song. Good playing though!

  • I wish you would tab this!

  • Scary thumb nail mate

  • you saved my life! thank you for such a great tutorial. i hope to be able to play it like you one day! If you could do any other avett bros tutorials i would appreciate it seriously! maybe when i drink? thanks!

  • Here's a small tab I found that helped me understand this much better. theavettbrothers -dot- com/us/forums/murder-city-tab

Replace the -dot- with a period when you copy it. Apparently youtube won't allow links in comments. : /

  • please tab haha great video, it would really help your viewers

  • Love all your videos, both performance and instructional. Would you please consider doing an instructional video of Lyle Lovett's "If I Had A Boat"--would greatly appreciate it!

  • Hi mate!

I want to ask you about the 2:15 finger position. I have many problems with my pinky finger on the 4th fret so I decided to watch the video of the Avett. Exactly in the second 0:02 Scott shows a different position... any solution?

Anyway, you have done such a great work! thansk for sharing!
