Carousel is one of the great classics and this is just one of the many wonderful songs in the movie. Let's bring back good music and not the #$%# that we hear today! Shirley Jones was amazing in the movie as she also was in Oklahoma. That's another phenomenal movie!

I love this too - Carousel is truly a masterpiece. There's no greater musical.

Gorgeous, just watched the film yesterday on DVD. DVD is great as it allows you to play soundtrack
only. I grew up watching Shirley J. on the Partridge Family...no knowledge of her fabulous
career prior to that show! Btw, saw Shirley J. on Rosie O'Donnell years ago..what a classy and
charming lady.

@79barkingspider i agree completely--it does touch on abuse but why not play it out? Spousal abuse today -- more so than ever before--no it's not right but it's not glorified in Carousel. carousel is a very real play and all characters do have epiphanies from which they learn. Drama does not get any more real than that.

@delidude1999 I agree. I've seen both, and the film was very disappointing. I think that mythical elements in this show play better on stage. It's too hard to mix the real with the imaginary in movies. BTW, this show has been roundly criticized lately by those who believe it glorifies abuse. I never understood that since Billy dies and loses everything in his life. What kind of glory is that?

@zolabud69 I have exactly the same reaction as you to this gorgeous song. Another gorgeous song sung by Shirley Jones is the duet with Robert Preston in The Music Man, "Till There Was You," which is also posted here on YouTube.

@zolabud69 Another moment for me is when Billy's daughter graduates- and she sings "You'll Never Walk Alone" along with her mother, as Billy returns with the Keeper of The Stars to heaven. By that point I can't see a thing, and I need a beach towel!
Thank you for a lovely memory, Trichoone.

@delidude1999 I agree there were too many cuts to the score. However, what remained was glorious. The cast was superb as was the choreography and location filming. The film was edited due to the motion picture laws of the 1950's. Darn those censors!
Never fails to make me cry every time I hear it....I have the film on VHS but just can't watch it as I blub all the way through. Then when Billy gets stabbed and You'll Never Walk Alone comes on...Too much for me I'm afraid.
Thanks for posting it Trichoone.

Trichoone,
I think that this is one of the truly great musicals of all time and this its best song. As a child I saw this in Washington D.C. in 1958 and I have periodically searched for this song on YouTube unsuccessfully. I gave up for a while there. Thank you so much for this post.
