In case anybody is interested, this is exactly the same way I have been learning the basics in motion graphics. Plug away, do a little bit every day. Always aim higher, etc.

Talent is a bit of a misleading concept, and probably not really relevant to the learning process. While it may be the case that some people are genetically predisposed to perform better, or that others have benefitted from a better general education, it is always the case that practice, study and hard work precede ability aka 'talent'.

The good thing about these initial bargue plates is how simple they are. I find when I look at a real object or a photo, the number of points and shapes to try to place is a bit overwhelming. Of course the plates get more complex as you go, but the progression should make things manageable.

I'm not really doing the studies properly though, you're supposed to spend hours on them getting the measurements absolutely perfect... i'm not sure that's the best use of time. On the one hand you probably learn the most by going all out and getting as accurate as possible, but on the other hand you could spend years perfecting sight-size at the expense of construction and drawing from imagination.

Anyway, the plates are awesome, there's plenty to learn from them about line, beauty, value, etc. Even doing them sketchily, I feel I'm training my eyes and getting more accurate.

  • Also have a question about the eyes.

I noticed this is the human eye, but do you also practice other types of eyes as well? Like anime, cartoon eyes?

  • @SupaKaream

the line ones are bargue plates, and the sketchy ones are my eyes looking in a mirror. I don't think there's any need to practice anime eyes, real ones are infinitely more complex, so if you can draw real ones, you can presumably draw anime ones in your sleep.

ps. I don't practice drawing anime, the only times I've tried it are the videos i've uploaded here, so maybe a dozen times at most. drawing from life is the key to drawing anything.

  • I jumped too far ahead with motion graphics, still have alot of blows in my work, most of it's detailing and what not.

I think I'll take things slower, right after I finish that rip of ur video lol.

Anyways, you ever heard of Mikenel? I'd really like to see you attempt to draw
