  • Parrots are social animals , it is cruelty to keep them alone.

  • @ww2footage Hello ww2footage thanks for stopping by. He definitely is a very social boy. Birds need a lot of time, attention, love, and stimulation. I am not sure why you came by to give me that comment or if it is just general information but it is true. Having a bird or birds is a very serious decision. The house that this guy is climbing in and out of is not his. Those birds sit right next to him so they have fun and keep each other company if no one is home. He is like a little person!

  • I would suggest not encouraging your bird to do this - it's mating behavior. It's cute, sure, but it can actually lead to "hormonal" behavior problems later on (feather picking, screaming, biting). This bird wants to mate, and (s)he will start to feel frustrated...

My bird will do similar things - her vet (Dr. Fern van Sant - one of the best avian vets in the country, no less) recommended giving her a "timeout" or distracting her with toys when she does this.

  • @BelleAdora He is mating age now and he seems to be ok. He rarely does that mating behavior. I think that I discouraged it enough when he did do it that maybe he learned or let go of it. haha or maybe it's just his personality and luck because I don't think hormones in humans or animals can be controlled very well. He was making the noises in this video / acting that way towards the camera. So that kind of seemed silly to me that he had such a reaction to a camera. It was a silver camera.

  • Yeah, he is wanting you as a mate. That's the noise, and he will probably regurgitate for you, if he hasn't already. Discourage that behaviour, because if some something ever happens to you, or you have to let him go for some reason, he won't be able to get along with anyone else.

He's beautiful, BTW, and of fine feather.

I have 2 girls, ages 3 and 4. They are the light of my life!

  • Thanks for the comment! I wonder how three of them get along together. Are all three African Greys? He did not want me as a mate in this video. He wanted the camera! I have a different camera now that is not silver and he does not act like that toward it. I don't know if it was that it was a silver color or if he was just being silly at the time. I was surprised that he reacted that way to a camera. He's very interesting and fun!
