Geoff Peters from http://geoffmobile.com talks about the future of Google Android, Apple iOS (iPhone) and Nokia's Symbian in light of the recent news about the increasing popularity and growth of Google Android and the Symbian "burning platform" memo sent to Nokia employees by their CEO.

Also mentioned is a comparison between the standardization on Android and the PC/Windows platform consolidation of the late 80's / early 90's.

I also talk about the latest news about the future of Wind Mobile with regards to the difficulties Globalive has had in the Canadian courts (re: court decision that puts Wind Mobile's future in doubt). I really like Wind Mobile's service and I hope they are allowed to continue being in business by the Canadian Government.

  • Rob (from Facebook) writes: Man I love the android. My gf got an android last year and it only took me a few hours to download free development tools and create a simple app to test on her phone.

  • I hope my Facebook update inspired this in some way.

    Its an interesting topic.

What did you shoot this on?

  • @deathboxproductions thanks Matt. yes it did! a friend passed on the news of the Nokia "burning platform" email about the same time as your facebook update, got me thinking about it :)

I made this video with my Alcatel OT-981A (Android phone on the Wind Mobile network), and just boosted the volume of it using the free software XMedia Recode before I uploaded it.

  • @geoffmobile The only thing I disagree with is the iPhone comment about apps. I have an iPhone and almost all apps have a lite and paid version. Lite has the ads paid doesn't. I don't remember the last time I've bought an app. I like the iPhone, what it offers, but I hope Google and the rest bring in more competition. It pushes everyone forward.

  • @deathboxproductions thanks Matt, good point about the apps! I've only used an iPhone a few times but I found the hardware to be a joy to use. iPhone is also still far ahead in terms of overall usability. I've spent many long hours trying to overcome the bugs in Android so far...

  • @geoffmobile Too bad about the bugs. If Google designed the hardware and software it might be easier for them to test it. I'm interested to see the Google laptops that are coming out.
