I couldn't bring myself to dispose of my grandmother's old Sears Silvertone 28" color TV. The electronics hadn't worked for decades, but the cabinet was still a cool piece of furniture. So, the innards were gutted and replaced with a 30-gallon freshwater aquarium!

It's a good entertainment value... the performers work for scale.

  • this is AWESOME! I just saw this video and went to my grandmother and begged her to let me have her old tv that looks just like this one! I can't wait to do mine. Was it very hard to do?

  • @BrittanyBlythe7 Thanks very much! I'm glad you like it. It was a little difficult removing the old picture tube and components (e-waste!); and it was also a challenge to find just the right sized aquarium to fit in the old console. My next project is to cut a properly-hinged lid in the top of the console for better access. TV collectors have given me grief over destroying an old TV set, but it was hopelessly broken and nothing valuable (Sears, after all!). Good luck!

  • Great TV tank. I love the old console. Came out fantastic. I've done 2 myself but never with a console that old. Check mine out on youtube-Bryan TV tank or Bryan tank. Awesome aquarium.

  • Thanks very much! I like yours, too.

  • Im going to make one of these. I have a wooden console that still works. I might just have to sacrifice it.

  • wait...what channel is it?

  • HAH! That is so cool!

  • lol 3d tv

  • @jshorva65 Considering this is now a fish tank, your whole comment was a waste of time and energy.

  • Wow! This is such a great way of giving an old television a second life.
