Nice job! I am a long time guitarist, just lookin for something different. So I just purchased a "Woodrow" instrument... which from what I can tell, is similar to the strum stick. Difference being they add an extra string...in this case making the tuning: FCFF. Anyway, I was just curious, did you figure theses out by ear or transcribe music from guitar to the strum stick? Just lookin for ideas to get me going on my new instrument!
@gutturtle I do everything by ear. What I like about the simplicity of this instrument is that once you figure out the melody, it's easy to figure out all kinds of compatible chords, because there's only so many notes on the other two strings that your fingers can reach. Some surprisingly complex chords come out at times.
Wonderful stuff. You should try releasing a tab book. Dulcimer players and strum players would go nuts!
I play dulcimer and I'm trying to remember...the strumstick flips the string and puts the melody over on the far side like a guitar instead of at the top nearest you like a dulcimer doesn't it?
@shaowebb Yes the strings are "flipped". I'd like to get a regular dulcimer some time (too many other instruments ahead of it on the list right now though). I've tried a few in stores but the non-backwardness of it confuses me!
It's astonishing how well that works on the strumstick - you did a great job!

@Foucault63 Thanks - I'm always surprised by what ends up working well on a strumstick.
