Urinetown was performed by the Music and Drama Society (MADS) of Queen's College, University of Melbourne) during August 2007. Produced by Geoff Heard and directed by Ben Landau it was nominated for Best Show at the University of Melbourne awards (2007).
All aspects of the production are done by College residents from performers, musicians, set designers and builders, costumers, lighting, sound, stage management and makeup.
Urinetown is a satirical comedy musical set in the near future where long term drought has led to a ban on private toilets. Instead, in an effort to control water consumption, everyone is required to pay to use public restrooms controlled by mega-corporation Urine Good Company (UGC).
