Actually, if it blew the meter, this is an example of what happens when the high voltage side gets shorted to the low voltage side. This could be due to fallen trees or a short within a transformer even. The insulation used in the low voltage side (120v; 240v) can not withstand the thousands of volta on the high side so electricity goes everywhere. Very destructive to all electronics plugged in. i think its something to do with the electrics.
The final breakdown of fuses can be pretty scary. Do you have any idea what caused it?

I have no idea. The power went out in one house on the whole block, mine. It blew the meter.
